Who We Are
Creating opportunities for children, young people and vulnerable communities in Middelburg, Eastern Cape.
Who We Are
Thandiwe Development Organisation (TDO) is a community development organisation working primarily in Middelburg, Eastern Cape. We create opportunities for children, young people and vulnerable families to learn, discover their potential, build confidence and create better futures.
We are not a collection of separate projects. We are building a long term ecosystem of opportunity, where a learner can grow from their first steps in ballroom, chess or music all the way to further education, employment and a productive role in the community. This is the Thandiwe pathway.
Locally rooted in the Eastern Cape
Connected programmes, not once-off projects
Focused on potential, dignity and opportunity
Our Purpose
A community where every child and young person has the opportunity to learn, develop their talents, build a meaningful future and contribute to their community.
To create practical opportunities for children, youth and vulnerable communities through education, talent development, youth empowerment, health awareness and social support.
Thandiwe exists to create those opportunities, in schools, in communities and in the lives of young people.
Our Story
There is talent in every community
People do not experience challenges in isolation. We walk alongside young people at every stage of their journey.
Thandiwe was established to respond to a simple truth: there is talent in every community, but opportunity is not shared equally.
We began in Middelburg, Eastern Cape, working alongside local schools and families who want more for their children.
Young people do not experience educational disadvantage, unemployment and vulnerability as separate problems, so neither do we.
Our vision is to grow into a trusted community development platform that connects learners to education, talent, health and employment opportunities.
Lasting change is built by schools, businesses, funders and communities working together, not through once-off assistance.
